Repairing Nail Tears!

Nail snags can HURT (especially when they run deeply toward the skin!). What hurts even more is when they tear in entirety. This is a how-to post on reparations to little tears, in an effort to keep them from catching more or getting worse.

First, the nail must be cleared of any nail polish and washed  well under warm water. The area around the tear needs to be kept clean to prevent infection.

First, cover the damaged nail with a coat of strengthening nail base. This will be important to help keep the nail string as it regrows. It may also help speed up the reparation process.

Secondly, cover the area surrounding the tear with adhesive. This can be super glue, nail glue, or any other kind of strong adhesive you have around (I've used eyelash glue in times of need). Some of these glues must dry before continuing the process... it depends on the specific directions for the product.

Take any prepackaged, bagged tea, and cut a small section of the bag's corner (actually, it works better if you tear it). This small piece of bag will be used as a patch for the nail.

Lay the patch over the adhesive so that it covers the tear completely. It may be necessary to press it down around the edges with a toothpick, or to trim additional bits away from the edge. If the patch is torn instead of cut, it will work better. Uneven, torn edges will press down better to lay flat.

Once the patch is dry, cover the entire nail in another coat of strengthening base or top coat. Paint as usual.

Voila! It may have to be changed a few times, but it helps to keep the snag from getting worse, or from getting caught on anything.
