Halloween

This nail design used the entire fingernail as a tombstone. It was a great pattern for Halloween (which I LOVE). I began with a gray/silver base for each of my fingers. Texture was added by smudging different shades of browns and greens with a make up sponge. I tried to use these for a mossy/stonework look. the RIP letters were just written in with a toothpick and black polish (which is great, because for once the letters were supposed to look rough and uneven!). The ring finger has a 'bloody handprint' drawn in. This was also done with a toothpick. I followed through by adding little spots and streaks of red to the other nails, and covering them all with topcoat. Overall, I was pretty proud of this design.

For Halloween, it worked out to be festive without being too 'cutesy' as some of my other Halloween patterns ended up looking.

Tips:

  • Don't try to make this one look perfect. The shaky writing and smudged colors add to the effect.
  • I almost stopped too early when I was adding the greens and browns. These colors should be subtle enough that they aren't distracting, but they should still be noticeable!
